This classic pineapple upside down cake will be sure to wow your friends! With tasting notes that boast fruit, gooey, caramelly goodness it’s no wonder why this has been a favorite for generations!
The juices of the cherries drip into the cake, adding even more flavor and texture.
A classic, favorite using pineapple and maraschino cherries, this retro cake is served upside down and perfect anytime of the year!
Instructions
Step 1: Brown your butter. A simple but important step to create the best Pineapple upside-down cake – read my post here about browning butter and what it brings to the recipes!
Step 2: Take butter and brown sugar and heat in a saucepan.
As soon as sugar and butter are incorporated, pour into Pyrex dish.
Step 3: Drain pineapple rings and place them side by side on top of the sugar and butter mixture.
Place Maraschino cherries in the holes of the pineapple. Trust me, their worth the price compared to other cherries.
Next, follow the instructions on your cake mix. We used King Arthurs yellow cake mix.
Step 4: To make boxed cake all you will need to do is Whisk the dry ingredients together, add the wet ingredients and combine.
You can add the leftover pineapple juice to the mixture to add more flavor.
Then pour batter over pineapples and spread with a spatula.
Step 5: Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes.
After removing cake from oven, flip the cake over pretty quickly to prevent cake from sticking.
